Reports suggest that the upcoming mini-SUV will be based on the Jimny and will get the same dimensions and the off-roading stance. It would not be as rugged as the retro-cool Gypsy, but will be a much modern- looking off-roader.

Under the hood, there's the K15B 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine without a mild-hybrid system. It is tuned to produce 101 PS at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic are the transmission choices. The fun off-roader sits on a ladder-frame chassis, has a 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil spring and is fitted with the ALLGRIP PRO part-time 4WD system with low-range gear ratio. The approach angle, breakover angle and departure angle are 37 degrees, 28 degrees and 49 degrees respectively.

LED projector headlamps, headlamp washers, 15-inch dark-metallic alloy wheels, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control and cruise control are some of the key features of the all-new Suzuki Jimny. On the safety front, the mini-SUV is equipped with six airbags, ESP, Dual Sensor Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning, Hill hold Control, Hill Descent Control, and more.

The fourth-gen Suzuki Jimny's 1.5-litre K15B engine is 15% lighter than the 1.3-litre M13A engine of the third-gen model we didn't get in India.

A robust ladder frame, three ample body angles, 3-link rigid axle suspensions with coil springs and 4WD with a low-range transfer gear.Equipped with a 1.5 litre engine, it takes you wherever you want to go with unrivalled agility and powerful torque when you need it most. The next-gen Maruti Gypsy (Jimny) will be a direct competitor of the next-gen Mahindra Thar and the next-gen Force Gurkha.

Launch of jimny  could help the company boost sales. Gypsy, which was basically the 2nd gen Jimny, has been discontinued from India, as the car did not meet safety norms. But the new Jimny, now in its 4th gen, meets all safety norms of India. If the Jimny goes on sale within the country, expect prices to be in the Rs.7-10 lakhs range.
