MG Motor India is gearing up to launch its first electric vehicle- the ZS EV in India this month and wants to assure its customers of their charging requirements. Ahead of the launch, the Chinese carmaker has already installed DC fast chargers at 10 of its dealerships across the country. So now, along with its Gurgaon based flagship showroom, dealerships based in West Delhi, Lajpat Nagar (South Delhi), Noida, Mumbai West, Thane, Bengaluru ORR, Bengaluru Electronic City, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad have been equipped with fast chargers.

The 50 kW DC fast chargers are good to charge a ZS EV up to 80 per cent in just 50 mins while it takes up to 8 hrs to fully charge the vehicle using home based AC chargers. The service can be availed 24x7 at all MG Dealerships where the chargers have been installed and MG Motor will expand the network eventually, as the demand for EVs will increase. The company is also working on the routes to prioritize the dealerships for EV installations which will also help it to provide charge-on-the-go facility or road side assistance (RSA) for the ZS EV. The service will come complementary with the vehicle. At the time of unveil, MG had also announced its partnership with Fortum to set up a 50 kW DC fast charging infrastructure at the locations the ZS EV will be on sale. It has also partnered with Exicom Tele-Systems for the second life use of the Battery pack.

The company is also providing three charging options with the ZS EV. As already mentioned, first is the AC chargers which can be installed at home and can fully charge the vehicle in up to 8 hours. Then are these DC fast chargers provide 80 per cent charge in 50 mins and then the road side assistance chargers, just in case the vehicle runs out of juice in the middle of the trip. The ZS EV also comes with a 15 amp cable to help it plug-in. It features a three phase permanent synchronous electric magnet motor which makes power equivalent of 140.7 bhp at 3,500 rpm and has a peak torque output of 353 Nm at 5,000 rpm. There is a single speed reduction gear which helps deliver the power instantly but more on that later. The power comes from a 44.5 kWh battery which is IP67 rated which means it is resistant to dust and waterproof up to a depth of 1 metre.
