Suzuki Saluto 125 cc Scooter Unveiled In Taiwan

Suzuki has unveiled a new retro-styled 125 cc scooter at the 2020 Taipei Motor Show in Taiwan. With a retro-themed design, which seems to be inspired by classic Vespa and Lambretta scooters, the Suzuki Saluto 125 has a great mix of classic styling and modern touches. Based on the 125 cc Suzuki Swish sold in Taiwan, the new Suzuki Saluto has a very similar engine like the one on the Suzuki Access 125 and the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 sold in India. The maximum power output though is slightly different, with the Saluto's specifications stating a 9.3 bhp of power and a similar 10 Nm of peak torque as the new generation Suzuki Access 125.

The Suzuki Saluto 125 has a neo-retro design with modern touches in its features and details

With edgy bodywork, and LED lighting all round, including a strip of LED daytime running lights around the position lamps on the front apron, the Suzuki Saluto is based on the Suzuki Swish 125 sold in Europe. There's generous amount of chrome around the LED headlight as well as the brake levers and the rear view mirrors. Even the switchgear employs retro-looking black switches on a silver finished base plate, quite like the age-old Lambretta scooters of the 1960s and '70s, albeit with modern finishes. The instrument panel has a large analogue speedometer with a nice-looking digital screen, and yes, it boasts of keyless ignition as well.

Now, the big question is whether Suzuki Motorcycle India will introduce something like the new Suzuki Saluto 125 in India? In case you didn't know, the Suzuki Access 125 is the highest-selling 125 cc scooter in India, and the Suzuki Burgman Street 125, based on the Access 125, but with maxi-scooter design, also holds a unique position as a one-of-its-kind scooter in India. For 2020, Suzuki has already introduced the BS6 model of the Access 125, but not with a complete design and feature revamp, and primarily with an updated fuel-injected engine to meet the new emission regulations. We are hopeful that Suzuki will further broaden the Burgman range and introduce, possibly something in the 150-200 cc scooter segment. Whether that happens, or if current product strategy involves yet another 125 cc scooter with fresh, neo-retro design, it remains to be seen.
