The CNB Auto Expo Awards for Excellence 2020 recognised and honoured the efforts by auto manufacturers who put their best foot forward with launches, concepts, innovations and more. Although participation from mainstream two-wheeler manufacturers was low-key at the Auto Expo 2020, Piaggio India had one of the best laid-out pavilions at the event, showcasing the brand's new unveil, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi premium bikes, new BS6 range of Aprilia scooters, as well as the 2020 facelift models of the Vespa range of scooters.

The showstopper at the Piaggio India pavilion was, of course, the all-new Aprilia SXR 160, a new premium 160 cc scooter based on the Aprilia SR 150, but with completely new bodywork, as well as a slightly longer wheelbase. The SXR 160 may look like a maxi-scooter, with its biggish proportions, but Piaggio India has decided to call it a "Crossmax", offering the looks and presence of a true-blue maxi-scooter built for touring, but with the agility and handling of a regular commuter. So, essentially, the Aprilia SXR 160 can be used for longer commutes and very easily within traffic. It certainly is one of the most attractive two-wheelers of the Auto Expo 2020, and rightly wins the People's Choice Award for the Best Two Wheeler of the Auto Expo 2020 at the CNB Auto Expo Excellence Awards.

But that's not all. Also on display were the 2020 facelift models of the Vespa range of scooters, with new colours, front disk brake with ABS, as well as LED headlight and DRLs. Also on display was the Vespa RED, a Vespa scooter with an all-red colour scheme, as well as the limited edition and sporty looking Vespa Racing Sixties scooter. All these will be launched in the second quarter of 2020.

And to add to the excitement at the Piagggio pavilion was the Vespa Elettrica, the electric Vespa scooter which is already on offer in Europe. Piaggio has said that an all-new electric Vespa scooter will be built, specifically for the Indian market, and will take inspiration from the Vespa Elettrica. Piaggio MD and CEO Diego Graffi also revealed to Carandbike that a new 300 cc motorcycle will be developed, specifically for India and other Asian markets. Although details on the development of the new motorcycle were not revealed, it's very likely that Piaggio India will eventually manufacture the new motorcycle in India. Needless to say, the next few years promise a lot of excitement from Piaggio India, from the new Aprilia SXR 160 and SXR 125, a new Vespa electric scooter, as well as a new 300 cc Aprilia motorcycle.
