Suzuki Motorcycles has revealed the 2020 SV650 for global markets. The naked middleweight motorcycle will go on sale in Japan first and then launched in other markets. The motorcycle gets new colour schemes for 2020, which are Mystic Silver Metallic, Matte Black Metallic and a Glass Sparkle Black. The frame of the motorcycle is done in different colour than the base colour, for the first two colour schemes. The Glass Sparkle Black is basically an all-black colour scheme, with blacked out parts and even a blacked out frame.
The motorcycle continues to get the same 645 cc V-Twin engine which is similar to the one found on the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT ABS, which is on sale in India. The engine on the SV650 makes 76 bhp and 64 Nm of peak torque as compared to 71 bhp and 62 Nm on the V-Strom 650 XT ABS. The 6-speed gearbox is the same as well. What is surprising is that the SV650 does not get the electronics suite that the V-Strom gets. It misses out on things like switchable ABS and traction control. It does get a dual-channel ABS and a low rpm assist, which prevents the motorcycle from stalling at low speeds. At present there are no plans of bringing the SV650 to India, however, Suzuki could bring this motorcycle to our country in the second half of 2021. We expect the SV650 to have a price tag of less than Rs. 7 lakh.
At present Suzuki has the very capable GSX-S750 on sale in India, as a naked middleweight motorcycle and that is priced at Rs. 7.47 lakh. Although it remains to be seen if it makes the BS6 transition or discontinued? If the motorcycle does indeed end up being discontinued, then maybe the SV650 will be a replacement.
